Privacy Policy

TypeForge is built on a simple idea: your data is yours. No account, no servers, no tracking — ever.

Last updated: June 2026

Overview

TypeForge is a native macOS application. We built it from the ground up around a single privacy principle: your data is yours and stays on your devices. TypeForge operates no servers. We have no database of your typing results. We cannot see, access, or sell your data because we never receive it.

This policy explains exactly what happens with any information that exists while you use TypeForge.

Data We Collect

TypeForge collects no personal information. There is no account, no sign-up, no login, and no registration of any kind. You never provide us your name, email address, or any identifier.

The only data TypeForge creates is your typing test results — WPM, accuracy, duration, mode, and timestamp — generated entirely on your Mac when you complete a test. This data never leaves your devices except via your own private iCloud account (see iCloud Sync below).

We do not use analytics SDKs, crash reporters, telemetry pipelines, advertising frameworks, or any third-party code that phones home. The app contains no trackers.

iCloud Sync

TypeForge uses Apple CloudKit to sync your typing history privately across your own Macs. CloudKit stores data in your personal iCloud account, which is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. TypeForge cannot access CloudKit data belonging to other users — the CloudKit container is private and scoped to the signed-in iCloud account on each device.

If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for TypeForge in System Settings → Apple ID → iCloud, sync stops and your results remain stored only on the local device. Deleting TypeForge removes local data; iCloud data can be deleted from System Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage.

Monkeytype Import

TypeForge Pro offers an optional feature to import your typing history from Monkeytype. This feature is entirely user-initiated and works in two ways:

  • Ape Key: You paste your personal Monkeytype Ape Key into TypeForge Settings. This key is stored securely in the macOS Keychain on your device — it never leaves your Mac except to make a direct, authenticated HTTPS request to Monkeytype's API on your behalf, when you explicitly trigger an import. TypeForge does not store, log, or transmit your Ape Key to any server we operate.
  • CSV import: You export your results from Monkeytype yourself and import the file into TypeForge. The file is read locally; no data is sent anywhere.

Imported results are stored locally and synced via your private iCloud account in the same way as native TypeForge results. Monkeytype's own privacy practices are governed by Monkeytype's Privacy Policy.

Purchases

TypeForge Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. All payment information — your card number, billing address, and Apple ID — is handled exclusively by Apple. TypeForge never sees, stores, or processes any payment details.

The only signal TypeForge receives from StoreKit is a confirmation that the purchase is valid for the current device's Apple ID. This confirmation is verified locally on your device via StoreKit 2 — no receipt is sent to our servers because we have no servers.

Third Parties

TypeForge does not share your data with any third parties because we never have your data to share. We do not integrate with advertising networks, analytics providers, social SDKs, or data brokers.

The only external services involved in TypeForge are:

  • Apple iCloud / CloudKit — optional private sync, described above.
  • Apple App Store / StoreKit — payment processing for Pro, described above.
  • Monkeytype API — only when you choose to use the Monkeytype import feature, described above.

Your Control

Because TypeForge stores all data locally and in your own iCloud account, you are always in full control:

  • Delete local data: Uninstall TypeForge. All local app data is removed.
  • Delete iCloud data: Go to System Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → TypeForge → Delete Data.
  • Remove your Monkeytype Ape Key: Open TypeForge Settings and clear the Ape Key field. It is removed from the macOS Keychain immediately.
  • Export your data: TypeForge Pro includes a CSV export so you can take your results anywhere.

There is no account for us to delete and no server-side data for us to purge on your behalf — because none exists.
